About the Industry
The U.S. closed-end fund industry is
comprised of over 650 funds with a market
capitalization approaching $300 billion. In fact, nearly 1 in 6 stocks listed on the NYSE is a closed-end fund.
Closed-end funds are investment companies like mutual funds and
Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) except a fixed amount of assets is raised at inception in an initial public offering. Closed-end funds are bought and sold on exchanges and,
unlike mutual funds, do not redeem shares at net
asset value.
Thomas J. Herzfeld Advisors, Inc. provides
comprehensive research on the industry in its
monthly report, The
Investor's Guide to Closed-End Funds,
which is available by subscription. |
