Thomas J. Herzfeld Advisors, Inc. was founded in 1984 as a boutique investment management firm dedicated to serving the needs of pensions, endowments, foundations, institutions and high net worth individuals.
Over the years, the firm has conducted research and provided hundreds of interviews to financial publications around the world, and has consulted for large financial institutions and governmental organizations on high-level strategy advice.
Tom Herzfeld, often dubbed "Mr. Closed-End Fund," wrote the first textbook in the industry, The Investor's Guide to Closed-End Funds: The Herzfeld Hedge, (McGraw-Hill, 1979). The firm created, and continues to calculate, the industry benchmark: The Herzfeld Closed-End Average, which has been published weekly in the Mutual Fund section of Barron's since 1987.
Since its founding, the firm offers highly customized account management in the form of Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs), using its specialized investment strategies. Additionally, the firm manages The Herzfeld Caribbean Basin Fund, Inc. (NASDAQ: CUBA), and sub-advises the Virtus Herzfeld Fund (MUTF: VHFIX, VHFAX, VHFCX).
